This onsen area is in a forested area at an altitude of about 700 meters, with the famous Akakura Kanko Hotel high above at 1,000 meters. Drawing from the same source as Akakura Onsen, the water contains calcium, magnesium sodium sulfate and bicarbonate, making it very effective in healing wounds, treating circulatory disorders and depression, and in beautifying the skin.

The Akakura Kanko Hotel is also the site of both a ski area and a golf course, making this a great destination in all seasons. The Myokokogen Sky Cable gondola runs throughout winter and also much of summer. The 11-minute ride to the summit brings you to scenic overlook at 1,300 meters, with views of Mt. Madarao, Lake Nojiri and even out to Shiga Kogen, Nozawa Onsen, and tall mountains to the east.
